MW2 features one of the best single-player FPS campaigns I have experienced in a long time. Picking up where MW1 left off, you play through the story in a time linear fashion through the eyes of several Special Forces soldiers, spread across different units and locations around the world. The objective is…. well, it’s hard to discuss without giving too much away but as you would expect it is based on international acts of terrorism and global war.

    So does Mark One.
Daytripper – Gabriel Ba & Fabio Moon
The first issue of Daytripper seems to be a story in itself, and I’m not so sure what it will be in the long run. But it is a very pretty comic to look at and I like pretty comics even if I don’t entirely get the story they are meant to tell. As far as I can make out Bras is a writer of obituaries and working on a novel, his dad is also a writer and receiving some award, it is Bras’ birthday and his family seem not to notice. And then he dies.

It would be easy to indulge in cheap cynicism when reviewing "The Blind Side". A movie that landed young Sandy Bullock an Oscar - she beat out Meryl Streep, no less - it has that "Erin Brockovich" feel to it, giving its sweetheart star the chance to shine in an uplifting true story. Bullock plays Leigh Anne Tuohy, a wealthy Memphis mom who adopted a destitute black teenager, inspiring him to both academic and sporting achievement, the latter on the grid iron field.

Fahrenheit 451 is the book, the title of which Michael Moore ripped off for his movie Fahrenheit 9/11. The reason for this is that both works deal with the theme of control of information for political ends.
Fahrenheit 451 is set in a dystopian future where the population is essentially illiterate and is entirely addicted to mindless television. As a result it is easily manipulated by the powers that be into engaging in futile, destructive wars. No doubt Moore saw plenty of parallels between Bradbury's fictional society and the U.S.A as it existed under the Bush Administration.

The Dead Weather are one of the finer and wierder of the ever increasing Jack White offshoot projects. A mix match of indie darlings featuring guitarist Dean Fertita of Queens of the Stone Age and the groin tingle inducing attractiveness of Alison Mosshart from The Kills. Last year’s debut album Horehound offered a dense, atmospheric slice of dark garage rock, it's just one year later and they've returned with Sea of Cowards.

About two tracks into this album, I was starting to think I should have laid down some candy to lead me back to the proverbial home that is my usual music track list. Home sweet home was so far away from here, in the thick, twisting shrubbery of Indie Pop (had such an oxymoron ever been used before?). In the distance, I could no longer hear the restless machine gun drumming and guitars set to drop D tuning; they were sounds that faded away. But nevertheless, I digress, the journey had begun and so I tried to lose myself in each note sung.

It’s 9:15am and the place is deserted save for a table of hot air balloonists munching on platters of spring rolls and fried samosas…for breakfast? Oh dear- and there isn’t a single vegetarian item on the breakfast menu other than French toast. But no worries, I’ll just go for their advertised muffin and coffee for $4.50. My boyfriend, who does eat meat, opts for the Mixed Grill: bacon, kransky sausages, mushrooms, grilled tomato, hash browns and fried eggs on foccacia bread ($15.50).

I was optimistic, although armed with reasonably attenuated expectations, as I sat down to Hillcrest High School’s first performance of Monty Python’s Spamalot, with tag line “a new musical ‘lovingly’ ripped off from the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail.” My optimism was rewarded and my expectations far exceeded.

Lately I’ve been playing a lot of World War 2 games. While everyone else is tired of WW2 as a game setting and would rather be knee deep in The Sims 3, Napoleon Total War or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, there’s nothing that makes me happier than killing Nazis.
